Turn on, tune in, drop out

Albert Hoffman the father of LSD died t the age of 102. One may argue about drugs and their negative and positive effects but one cannot deny that they influence every one of us daily.

“I take no drugs!” you might say. You are wrong. You do and so does every one of us. The substances differ from person to person but the pattern remains the same.

We look with disgust on junkies on the streets while walking past them on the streets. We might feel simpathy for them even. Then we come home, turn on the TV, tune into our favourite show and drop out for some time.

“You cant compare such horrible illegal drugs as LSD, cocaine or whatever else to TV!” you might say. You are wrong again. TV is a hard drug which is unfortunatly legal and easy accessible to everyone of us. Hell i say legalize LSD and forbid TV. You also will have nice movies with less side effects :) And probably no commercials.

I took some drugs when I was younger so i know what im talking about. Not only i took them i tried to learn as much as I can about them. What does it have to do with Albert Hoffman? Well my Uncle who was a microbiologist and mycologist was on a conference and met Hoffman there. Got an autographed book from him. Showed me this book. The book was very interesting and so it all begun. Back to the point now.

You think TV is the only drug we have that we have problems with? Well I dont know how the situation is in many other countries but at least i know in Germany and Russia there is another hard drug which cause way more problems than psychodelics ever will – alcohol. Young people start to drink at a much younger age than years before, flat rate parties are en vogue. Actually the goal of every party seems to have shifted from “have a good time, listen to music, pick up girls and drink some booze in the process” to “drink some booze to have a good time and enough courage to pick up the girls”. To those people “fun” is synonimous with “getting drunk”. And it repeats every weekend. I wont mention the immense number of alcoholics who live in Russia or Germany.

What about ciggarettes? (btw i drink and smoke from time to time so im not one of those militant antis. Dont take no drugs anymore though. Well very seldom). Why are ciggarettes not illegal? I mean there is a wonderful book by Allen Carr “Easy way to stop smoking” where the mechanism of nicotine addiction is explained and analyzed. Nobody will argue that smoking has a very bad influence on your health. On each pack is an inscription like “Smoking might kill you” or “Smoking will harm you and ppl around you” or “Smoking will make you impotent”. Which all is very bad. But Cigarettes are legal. The state just earns too much money from smoking I guess that it would make it illegal. And thats why Cannabis is illegal. You can grow it yourself. And it tastes good if its homegrown i am told (never smoked grass – never had or liked the effects from it). Try to smoke homegrown tobacco – it is awfull (been there done that). So its much more convenient to buy than supply yourself.

Recently in Germany it became illegal to smoke in bars, clubs, pubs, restaurants etc.
“See the state does something” you might say. Yes it does. It forces ppl to smoke outside instead of inside. It doesnt prohibits smoking though. Which it probably should.

Ok it is becoming a pretty long rant but i guess if you read till here you can red a bit more.

When one looks at the impact and effect that Legal drugs such as TV, Alcohol, Ciggarettes, Fast Food etc. have on our society, culture, health and future and compares it to such evil substances as LSD and some other drugs one can see that there is more harm derived from the legal stuff than illegal.
But the legal stuff is legal cause it dumbs us down, makes us docile, and is very profitable for the state. Go figure.

So you say whats my point…Legalize some stuff while making another one illegal? Like make LSD legal and TV illegal? Well i actually dont know. It could be a start i guess. What I do know though is that we need better education on these subjects. People should be educated on the effects that some drugs have. Legalizing some drugs would be more beneficial for crimefighting because the very reason of the existence of dealers would be gone. If one is educated enough and knows what he does he can make better decisions on weather to take it or leave it. With TV we dont have much choice today. We build altars for them in our rooms and sacrifice the most precious thing we have to them – our time.

Some drugs should be always forbidden such as heroin, crack etc. ( the list might go on and on). But LSD is not one of them and we have to thank to the man who died today for having it. May he rest in peace!

One last quote everybody knows probably but which fits here perfectly. Its an oldie but goodie!

Poison is in everything, and no thing is without poison. The dosage makes it either a poison or a remedy.” Paracelsus

peace out
